24 Hours in Philadelphia

If you only have 24 hours to spend in Philly, here’s the list of things you should do

Breakfast

Get breakfast at Honey’s Sit-N-Eat.  Honey’s serves up Southern style comfort food in a rustic setting at its two locations, in South Philly and Northern Liberties.  Don’t be afraid to go hog wild and try the restaurant’s homemade latkes, biscuits, marmalades and other delicious offerings. The two locations always have daily specials that use the freshest seasonal ingredients. If you want the best breakfast in town, be sure to give Honey’s a try!

History

If you would like to see some of the nation’s history while you’re in Philadelphia for the day, hit up Independence Mall in Old City. Independence Mall is a three block historical area that includes: the National Constitutional Center, Independence Visitor Center, Free Quaker Meetinghouse, President’s House Memorial, and Liberty Bell Center. Independence Mall is a great place to experience the history of Philadelphia. A tour of these locations takes approximately two hours and leaves you with a wealth of knowledge.

Lunch

Reading Terminal Market is the perfect way to taste your way through the Philadelphia food scene.  Some of the best fair include cannolis at Termini’s Bakery, Oreo cupcakes at the Flying Monkey Bakery, grilled cheese at Melt Kraft, green curry at Little Thai Market, lomein at Shanghai Gourmet, and ice cream at Bassett’s Ice Cream. You can’t go wrong with any of the treats!

Photo Op

One Liberty Observation Desk is the best place to get some epic skyline shots of the city.

Pro tip: Come here to view the sunset; it’s breathtaking!

The Franklin Institute

The Franklin Institute is unlike any science museum you’ve ever visited. Visit this location to surpass your childhood experiences.  The museum is very interactive, offering many amusements to keep the little and big ones occupied.  There’s a different theme to every exhibit in which you’ll learn something new.

Dinner

Some of the best dinner spots in Center City are the Stephen Starr restaurants: The Continental and El Vez.  I highly recommend to make reservations at either of these reservations earlier in the day. The Continental is an American (New) joint that serves up crowd friendly tapas with a fun dining experience. The greatest hits are the Baja fish tacos, Continental Salad, Szechuan Shoestring fries, Cheesesteak egg rolls,  and Chilean Sea Bass. If you can’t get into the Continental go to El Vez, a Mexican restaurant.  If you decide to dine here, order the Bazooka Limon guacamole, crispy Mahi- Mahi tacos, and grilled corn on the cob.  Besides the delicious food, El Vez makes fantastic cocktails including the Red Wine Sangria and Pineapple Canela Margarita.

Bars

If you’re looking to go out for a drink in Center City, hit up McGillian’s Olde Ale House, the oldest bar in the city.  While you’re there, get your karaoke on and try some of the best local beers that are on tap including the Philadelphia Brewing Company’s “Walt Whit Witbier” and Yard’s Brewing Company’s “The Brawler”. If you’re craving German beer after your debut performance at McGillian’s, go across the street to Brü Craft & Wurst. As you drink your German brew, you can play some old school checkers with your drinking buddy.  For specialty cocktails consider the Piano Bar Howl at the Moon or Graffiti Bar.

I hope this 24-hour guide to Philadelphia serves you well ☺
